Below are just a few ideas of things to do in the area to make your stay even more memorable and interesting! The Castle is a prominent landmark steeped in History and the Bandstand hosts many musical events for all tastes - Jazz to Classical, Blues to Rock

Bridge House is just a walk away from the historic centre of Newark which has a Castle, museums, period buildings, a fine market square, antique shops and centres, cafes, restaurants and a host of pubs. The River Trent also runs through Newark and has lovely riverside walks and Boat trips ( some with Jazz bands, bars etc), are a regular feature during the summer season. |

The Newark Showground at Winthorpe is just over a mile away and this hosts many shows and exhibitions. These include events such as the bi monthly International Antiques fairs, Kit Car Show, Americana etc. The Arthur Swallow Antique Fairs are held every two months a few miles away in Lincoln. Within 6 miles you will find such delights as The Southwell Minster, Southwell races (horse), National trust Workhouse, Watch & Clock Museum, Ferry Farm (where you can find rare breeds, children’s adventure course and eatery), Trent River and locks and a host of lovely villages with smashing pubs. Within a 20 minute drive you will find caves, parks, abbeys, Greyhound and Horse racing stadiums, the Robin Hood centre and a host of interesting buildings and places. Things to Do: Within 2 miles you will find Golf Courses, horse riding and equestrian centres, and places to fish, walk, cycle, or just to roam & explore. Within 30 minutes there are places to Go-cart, shoot, quad bike, climb, paintball, assault courses, aerial assault course (Go Ape), ice skating, water sports such as wild water canoeing, rafting, sailing, skiing, off road cycling etc. etc. If you are the active type there’s plenty to challenge, excite and wear you out! If a bit more serene try the river trips or ghost walks – the possibilities are almost endless! Entertainments: Whatever your desires you are sure to find something to entertain in the area. If you like bingo, quizzes or pub games you will find them in many fine local pubs. Perhaps a night at a cinema, bowling alley, indoor bowls, theatre, concert hall or one of the many bingo halls, is more your cup of tea. There are often top acts coming to both the Newark and Nottingham venues. We have also ice hockey matches with the Nottingham Panthers or Football at Nott’s Forest or City Grounds, not forgetting cricket at Trent Bridge and various village greens. Eating & Drinking: There are hosts of local pubs and restaurants catering for many tastes including Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai, French and English within Newark. For more exotic tastes such as sushi or other delights there are Japanese, Greek and many other exotic food restaurants in Nottingham. For a county pub experience we particularly like the atmosphere, food and drink offered at The Full Moon Inn - just 6 miles from Bridge House, or try Funny Peculiar, a really nice restaurant,in the historic and picturesque town of Southwell. Shopping: Local: Take away food outlets, co-op, bakery, petrol station, betting shop, car parts Newark: Larger shops and a couple of stores, two auction rooms’, antique shops and Warehouses, pine shops and several markets Nottingham:Wide range of shops, & Lincoln department stores and specialist outlets, markets,auction houses etc. Further away: 45 minutes drive to MeadowHall at Sheffield or 30 minutes to McArthur Glen in Mansfield. Antiques: Newark is an international antiques hotspot with many antique shops and warehouses. At Newark Showground there are 6 major antique fairs each year. Here you will find thousands of stalls offering every conceivable antique or collectible. Just before each Newark fair there is another 2 day event held at Lincoln Showground, again with a thousand or so stalls. See the links page to find their web sites..
